Action Step One for Stress Relief
Excerpt from Article One of the Quieting the Mind Series:
Do you find yourself overwhelmed and without enough time to relax and re-charge? Do racing thoughts move through your mind keeping you awake at night? Would you like to be able to gain calm and focus, stop the mind chatter, change negative thoughts and stress reactions?
It is possible to learn to use your mind to stop these automatic reactions to stressors. In the article series for Quieting the Mind, you’ll be learning how to use your mind in a very different way. One that creates feelings you want rather than ones that cause grief and worry.
Action Step One: Using the Imagination to create a positive future:
To get you mind in the best framework for change we start by imagining how it will be in your life when fear, worry and anxiety is replaced with calm and focus. This may seem to be a very simple exercise yet when you put your mind to a possible, positive future image, the unconscious part of the mind begins to act as if it is actually happening.
Please answer the following questions: This is the 1st Action Step.
1. How it will be when you can go to a calm and focused state of mind when life is the most upsetting?
2. Think about where you want to have the changes. Be specific.
a. What has been happening that you would like to change?
b. Where are you when stress hits?
3. What thoughts move through your mind?
4. Are you aware of any triggers to stress reactions?
The answers to the questions will give you important clues. Please jot down your answers.
After you learn the calming techniques you will then be able to practice using them in the situations you listed in the questions above, and see how differently you feel.
