Happiness #5 Tips from the Anxiety Control Center

Post 5: Anxiety Control Center’s answer to finding happiness.

Don’t search for happiness
focus on the positives and happiness will come.

Today we’ll be looking the the 5th post in the key’s to happiness series.  It you put these tips to use  you too can gain happiness, no matter what is going on in your life.  Even if you are still suffering from anxiety, or insomnia, or depression these tips can work for you.

Key 1: Is to know that changing our responses to stressors takes some effort.

Key 2: Is to take one tiny step at a time, that is all it takes.

Key 3: Give yourself credit for what you do.

Key 4: Find small things to give yourself positive feedback about.

Key 5: Find something positive about the choices you’ve made and things you’ve done.

Key 6.  Acceptance.

Accept the anxiety or depression or whatever you are feeling.  Accept the choices you made for this particular day in your life.  You can make different choices tomorrow, but can’t “rewind” no matter how much you blame yourself.   I

I hear people all the time saying “I should have….. ”  stop “shoulding” on yourself.  Accept and move on.  Find the positives in the choices you did make.  There is always something you can find that was positive, even if it was that you learned that next time you’ll make different choices.

One client came in all upset because she didn’t get to the gym that day. Instead she had cleaned her kitchen.  Somewhere she read that in order to sleep well at night she had to exhaust herself with exercise during the day.

Instead of being upset for not going to the gym, perhaps she could look at the nice clean kitchen and realize that this was a good choice.  For it really did seem more peaceful for her to see the kitchen so clean and organized.  I mentioned to her that she got a bit of exercise doing it.

In reality she had tried working out for a few weeks and was still having sleep issues.  I believe even the sleep issues that don’t resolve themselves with exercise, can be looked at in a positive way.  I look at sleep issues as the unconscious mind letting us know that there is something that needs to be worked out.  By paying attention to the issue instead of being upset we have an opportunity to find the root of not sleeping deeply.

to be continued tomorrow in Key 7.
